Spring Creek 1008 Brushy Creek From the confluence with the West Fork San Jacinto River in Harris/Montgomery County to the most upstream crossing of FM 1736 in Waller County. Sub-Segment 1008A: Mill Creek (unclassified water body). From the normal pool elevation of Neidigk Lake upstream to the Hurricane Creek and Kickapoo Creek confluences. Sub-Segment 1008B: Upper Panther Branch (unclassified water body). From the Lake Woodlands confluence upstream to the Bear Branch confluence. Sub-Segment 1008C: Lower Panther Branch (unclassified water body). From Spring Creek confluence upstream to Saw Dust Road. Sub-Segment 1008E: Bear Branch (unclassified water body). From Upper Panther Branch confluence to south of FM 1488. Sub-Segment 1008F: Lake Woodlands (unclassified water body). Upper end of segment to Northshore Park/Woodlock Forest. Sub-Segment 1008H: Willow Creek (unclassified water body). From the Spring Creek confluence to a point 0.48 km (0.3 mi) north of Juergen Road. Sub-Segment 1008I: Walnut Creek (unclassified water body). From the S This segment continues to experience rapid development. Commercial and residential growth is flourishing in the northeastern and middle portions of the watershed. The areas around Spring, The Woodlands, Shenandoah, and Oak Ridge North have been growing for quite some time but development around the cities of Tomball and Magnolia, located in the middle of the watershed, has escalated in the past five years. Between I-45 to the west and U.S. Highway 59 to the east, most of Spring Creek has been preserved as a greenbelt to help minimize flooding. The primary land cover west of Tomball is agricultural and cultivated land. Grass, hay and pasture related to cattle and horse ranches are common. The forested areas in the middle and northwest portion of the watershed are interspersed by subdivisions platted with lots ranging from 0.5 to 5 acres in size. Ranchettes and hobby ranches are also common in that portion of the watershed. On-site sewage facilities are the primary means of waste disposal in those areas. The public water supply and fish consumption use are the designated uses fully supported in this segment. The Spring Creek has been divided into three units for assessment purposes. The recreation use in all three AUs is impaired because the geometric means are greater than the standard of 126 MPN/100 mL. The middle AU has a geomean of 425 MPN/100 mL with 50 out of 117 samples (43%) exceeding the single sample criteria of 394 MPN/100 mL. The most concentrated urban areas are along that portion of the watershed. The upper AU has a geomean of 372 MPN/100 mL with 45 out of 120 samples (38%) exceeding the single sample criteria. The tributaries of Upper Panther Branch, Lower Panther Branch, and Willow Creek also have recreation use impairments with geomeans of 228, 170, and 489 MPN/100 mL, respectively. Two other unclassified tributaries, Walnut Creek and Brushy Creek, are also showing signs of being impaired, but there are too few samples available to make the determination at this time.
